Meet Ms. Hardwick!

Bethany Hardwick is the Director of Orchestras at Scott Johnson Middle School in McKinney, TX.  She holds degrees from the University of North Texas and Boston University.  Ms. Hardwick’s orchestras have earned consistent Sweepstakes awards in UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest, as well as “Best in Class” and “Overall Outstanding” in numerous Lone Star Music Contests.  Known to her students as "Ms. Hardy Party," Ms. Hardwick has established a reputation for being an inclusive orchestra director, and has presented at conventions, on podcasts, and at universities about how to include everyone in orchestra!

Ms. Hardwick has received numerous accolades including Quarterfinalist for the GRAMMY Music Educator Award (2015, 2019), Campus Teacher of the Year (2016), Winston Churchill Distinguished Alumni in the Arts (2018), and the Cain Sczepanski Foundation in Special Education Award of Excellence (2019).  Ms. Hardwick performs regularly in the DFW area with string quartets, rock bands, and for community theatre.  In her free time, Ms. Hardwick loves to travel, hike with her dogs Zooey and Penny Lane, and watch Netflix!

Meet Mr. Bryan!

Christopher Bryan is the Associate Director of Orchestras at Scott Johnson Middle School. Mr. Bryan is an accomplished educator and multi-instrumentalist with deep roots in North Texas. A North Texas native, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of North Texas, where he studied cello under renowned cellist Eugene Osadchy.

With over a decade of experience in both private and public music education, before coming to Scott Johnson Middle School Mr Bryan has spent the last ten years teaching in McKinney ISD, where he has taught at both Evans Middle School and Dowell Middle School. Under his leadership, his orchestras consistently earn UIL Sweepstakes awards, Best in Class Awards, and is a Commended Winner by the Foundation of Music Education, reflecting his commitment to musical excellence and student growth.

Mr. Bryan is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Orchestra Directors Association. In addition to his work in education, he has been an active church musician for over twenty years and currently performs as a cellist with the Sherman Symphony Orchestra.

He lives in Anna, Texas, with his wife and forever accompanist, Emily, and their daughter, Mary Elizabeth. When he's not teaching or performing, Christopher enjoys cooking and exploring the world of coffee—always in search of the perfect brew.
